Cleaning & Maintenance of Birrus Entry Mats

Entrance matting, because of the locality, is constantly put to the test for effectiveness, appearance and durability. Birrus Entrance Matting is no exception and to maintain the various types of entrance matting available from Birrus Matting Systems in good condition, we recommend the regular cleaning of Birrus entrance mats to keep the treads free of dirt and grit to maintain their effectiveness and extend the life of your mat and surrounding flooring material.

Ultramat

Daily vacuuming is recommended to remove any loose dry dust and litter from the carpet inserts. Vacuum across the mat in the direction of the tread rails to effectively clean the carpet inserts and the fine ribbed profile of the aluminium tread rails.

Small wet spills can be addressed using a clean dry cloth to soak up surface liquids.

Larger wet spills should be cleaned up using a wet / dry vacuum system.

Should major soiling discolour the tread inserts the mat surface may be dry shampooed with a quality carpet shampoo, or spot cleaned, whilst in place. (It is advisable to test a small section of carpet insert to determine if the shampoo to be used is compatible with the carpet insert to be cleaned).

Cocamat

Coir inserts should be vacuumed regularly to remove dirt, grit and loose Coir fibres that collect in the treads. Vacuum across the mat in the direction of the tread rails to effectively clean the carpet inserts and the fine ribbed profile of the aluminium tread rails. (Do not use liquid cleaning materials. Dry clean only).

Aluminium surfaces may be restored by gently rubbing with steel wool.

All tread inserts can be fully replaced on site by a handyman when necessary. (Insert replacement instructions are available upon request.)

It is advisable to periodically remove entrance mats from their matwell and clean inside the matwell using a stiff broom and vacuum to removal all contamination. This will maintain the flat surface on which the mats should sit to avoid noisy operation and, in severe situations, the raising of the mat above the matwell frame through a build up of dust and other contamination within the matwell.
